Aussie Dave Racing Laguna Report

Jul 29th, 2011
A Successful Laguna Seca campaign for Team ADR Fly Racing
Last weekend saw the MotoGP at Laguna Seca combined with the AMA Pro National Guard Superbike and Daytona Sportbike Series, in which Team ADR Fly Racing embarked upon both the Superbike and Sportbike series, importing Scottish Moto 2 World Championship regular Kev Coghlan piloting the ADR #25 Yamaha R6 to a stunning 7th place and AMA Superbike rookie #33 Jordy Burgess finishing in the Top 15. A luckless Johnny Rock Page #269 missed out on qualifying for the main event by 0.30 seconds.
With Team owner and rider Aussie Dave Anthony absent from the superbike at this round due to a recent Back operation, the decision was made to build the team’s 2009 model R6 and field Scotsman Kev Coghlan who was fresh from Duties in the BSB the prior weekend and challenge the top runners at what was his maiden visit to Laguna Seca.
Adjusting to the bike quickly, the experienced Barcelona based racer qualified in a close 11th position whilst finding his feet and learning the track. In a stop-start race, Kev quickly made a solid start, coupled with some quick lap times and impressive passing maneuvers, found himself in 6th place before a red flag incident on the same lap saw the race finish early and his place be relegated back to 7th.
In the Superbike Race, Burgess qualified with a low 1:28 lap time to put him in 18th for his first race at Laguna Seca amongst the experienced field. The bike remained unchanged coming into the race as Burgess was sure he could push through and improve in the race. Once the race got underway, Burgess found himself in a battle for 14th with BMW rider and fellow Australian Chris Trounson. the pair fought back and forth with Jordy leading into the final lap when a blue flag incident saw Trounson gap Burgess, leaving the ADR rider having to settle for 15th place.
#25 Kev Coghlan Comments:
“I got the call up from Dave to ride this round a few weeks prior to the race and i jumped at the chance”
“Adjusting to a new bike is always challenging however we made it work with minimal changes and came out successful.”
“I’d like to thank the team for the opportunity. They are true professionals and do a great job and build great bikes and i’m hoping for another opportunity in the future with them.”
Burgess #33 Comments:
“We had another successful weekend, putting all the pieces of this track together is like a puzzle and takes time on these Superbikes but i think we did a great job with the time we had and i’m looking forward to our next round in New Jersey”
“ The team and our sponsors really did there best this weekend to put on a good show both on and off the track. We did a autograph signing on Cannery row in Monterey with Two Brothers Exhausts and that was great fun and we had a ball!”
Over all the team had another successful weekend and are gearing up for the AMA series Finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park on September 2-4.
