Kawasaki WSS 2nd and 5th at BRNO

Jul 13th, 2010
Great finish in the Czech Republic for the factory Kawasaki World Supersport team
Joan Lascorz 2nd
Katsuaki Fujiwara 5th
Once more, the heat was present at the race. Katsuaki Fujiwara came in weak shape after two weeks in hospital after having an operation for acute appendicitis. Besides, Joan had a harsh time in order to make up for the lack of grip in his bike, which felt the effects of heat and high temperatures as it had happened in Misano. Both riders got the 1st and 2nd positions in the grid; and at the race, Joan managed to achieve a tight second place, only 0.1 seconds away from the Sofuoglu, who got the victory this time. Katsuaki finished in a very good 5th position.
Joan Lascorz (Rider): “I am happy with the results, but I obviously have a bitter feeling for not having been victorious. Sofuoglu has made a great race and once more the heat has had its effects on the setting up of my bike in an unmeasurable way. It was difficult for me to come to a stop while braking and that wouldn’t let me fight Sofuoglu. Now there are 4 races to be run and many stories to be told. We will keep on working until the end. I would like to thank the whole team for the work done throughout the weekend”.
Katsuaki Fujiwara (Rider): “It was a real surprise for me to have had such a performance at the training sessions. After the operation, I knew it would be a hard weekend. Being in a second grid position has pleased me a lot. I knew I could make it fast but was not sure about the amount of laps. We had planned a conservative strategy for the whole weekend in order not to get too much tired when having to face the race, strategy which consisted in riding every two laps in the training sessions. At the race, I was able to ride 7 laps in a row but then I staggered. In the last 6 laps, my sight got foggy. I didn’t feel strong enough and thought I would not end the race. Taking this situation into account, this 5th position is of great importance. I would like to thank Alvar, my chief mechanic and Flecky, Jaime, Gaetan, Sergio, Nicola and Turu for all the efforts they made to provide me with a good bike.
Guim Roda (Sports Director): “We may definitely consider the weekend a good one. On Saturday, we finished with 1st and 2nd grid positions. A real top luxury. Joan’s race was very good but at the end the victory slipped through our fingers. He was not a 100% at ease on his bike and Sofuoglu is a great race fighter. Laverty’s engine broke down, so we are 25 points closer now. A very important move in terms of ranking. Now Joan is ranked 2ndin the Championship, with 4 races to go and 15 points away from Sofuoglu.
Kats showed he is a man and performed greatly this weekend. He has demonstrated he can ride very fast. We urgently need to get him at his full power again since we are having a race again in 15 days in Silverstone and there is a lot of work to be done on his muscles and fitness. Once more I am very grateful for the unconditional support of Motocard and all the sponsors”.
