GPR's Loren Black Race at Miller

Jun 8th, 2010
USA Round of the World Superbike ChampionshipMiller Motorsports Park, Tooele Utah
Lucas Oil Challange GTU class
Loren Black's first visit to the Miller circuit was a great learning experience for Loren and a big surspise to his competitors. Building his own bike back to life from a smoldering heap, left over from a firey crash at Willow Springs at the end of the 09 season, he qualified better than expected and finished in the top 20. Here's a re-cap from Loren:
"Used first practice (45 min) to learn the track layout, find braking markers, gear selection around the track, shift points. Ended up running a 2:05.00 lap time after the first session".
"First qualifying (20 min) got up to a decent speed, and in the 2:02.50 lap time range. Which put me sitting 21st out of 43 on the time sheets when the session was over. Knew I need to be around the 2:00.00 range to be in hunt for a good result".
"Second qualifying was a 20 minute early morning session. The GTU class was the first ones on track that day. Went out on a used tire, and the track was cold. Used this session just to get more familiarized with the circuit. Ran a 2:03.00 lap time which ended me up sitting 18th on the time sheets for second qualifying. After they combined the times from both qualifying sessions, I was gridded up 23rd out of 40 on the grid... Awesome".
The Race: "Got a great jump from the 6th row, picking off bikes down the long front strait heading to the first turn. Piled into turn one around 16th place or so. Crossed the line after the first lap in 15th and holding off some seasoned veterans for a few laps. After a few battles I later found myself in 19th as the red flag came out on lap 10 due to a rider down on the track. Due to the red flag, the results will drop to to the previous lap and I was awarded 20th for the overall. But I did achieve my target of a 2:00.1 lap time... Awesome".
