RT Motorsports IDM Report
Apr 22nd, 2010
Points for RT riders in 1st IDM Event.Round 1 of the championship that the RT Motorsports team is aiming to do well in was exciting for all. We had tested at Lausitz last week but in incredibly cold conditions unfortunately for us our settings were far from where we needed to be. Friday practise was interesting with all the teams out on track putting in fast laps yet no one was letting out any information on lap times. We felt ok at the end of practise, still chasing a set up that would help the bike steer and drive off the turns was our main issue. Going into Saturday we were around 2 seconds off the fastest rider.
Saturday qualifying started off cool but quickly warmed as did the lap times with the first of the front end riders to dip into the 1:39 bracket, our riders Gareth Jones and Jed Metcher managed a 1:42 laptime which would put us in 18th which was a wakeup call for us. In qualifying 2 they put head down early and put in a 1:41.8 and 1.41.7 but it seemed to feel as though the faster we went the more issue’s started to occur in the suspension set up. With only a few minutes to go they headed back out after a few changes to try to shuffle the way down the order but only coulded manage similar lap times. Jed in 18th and Gareth finished in 19th.
After a disappointing Saturday we had made some significant changes hoping they head in a positive direction. We tested these settings in a cold warm up that wouldn’t give great indications on how the changes would go in the race.
Race 1 was fairly interesting with a few top riders not finishing the race. Metcher could manage a 12th position and Gareth 13th.
Race 2 we got a decent start and really put the head down trying to hold on to the back of the 8th position, Jones and Metcher managed to stay for a few laps but found themself losing a lot of drive off the turns and in trend also positions around lap 14 Jed Metcher had a spray of water covered the bike. Checking the temperature Jed noticed it wasn’t overly hot, as he entered the pit he looked down to see that it had risen dramatically and would come to a early finish for race 2. Gareth finished in 12th position.
The RT motorsports team will thanks all sponsors for theyr effort and we will work hard to sorted our suspension problems, next week we do a 2days test to be prepared 100% for the next IDM event at Oschersleben 14 - 16 may.
