That first rotary steering damper was created to act as a stabilizer on Randy’s dirt bike. The first design, known as the 'Version 1', mounted on the top triple tree above the handlebars. Using the Version 1 Randy found he had greater control of his bike riding over braking bumps, due to the sideways movement of the front wheel being less violent. A second advantage of the damper was that it helped the bike to run straight on long climbs and when riding on sand, where control would have been difficult in the past.
