Race Day:
Earlier in the day we had a couple 5-minute practice sessions, and then a little later we had our hot lap for gate pick. I felt I had a decent lap going, but then I clipped a rock with my chain guide and derailed it! Of course that was huge and it gave me the last gate pick for the night. In the first heat I knew it was going to be tough to qualify, because they only took two and I was starting on the second row. I actually still got a pretty decent start, but after the first lap got stuck in a bottleneck and was around 9th. By the time the checkered flag came out I made it up to 7th and had to go to the LCQ.
They only take three out of the LCQ, however this time I was starting on the front row and felt like I had a good shot at getting to the main. My start was pretty good, but going over the first log the guy in front of me went down and it pushed me way wide. By the time I got to the third corner I was in dead last. I was slowly moving up again, but just seemed to get behind someone that would get stuck or I would make a dumb mistake. I'm not even sure what I finished, but know I didn't make it in so it was back to the semi to watch my teammates in the main events.
Overall Summary:
There's been times where I lucked into a main event, and then there's nights like tonight where I really felt I should've been there. Unfortunately I just seemed to be in the wrong place all the time! Of course, that’s also what makes Endurocross racing fun to do and watch. Not the way I wanted to finish the EX season off, but I definitely plan to be back for more next year and I know I'm in for X Games so that will be awesome again!
Other Notes:
Here’s a short clip of the racing. They’ll be posting more later this week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG4WTbATUis
They had a different format here and actually had two main events. As long as you made the main you got to race both of them. I was super happy for my teammates, Taylor Robert and Justin Soule, who both pulled off second place finishes. Taddy kept his win streak going and won every main event this year. Pretty insane!
Jonny wasn't able to make the race since they’re expecting a little boy any time now. Chappy and Jeff filled in and were a huge help.
This was going to be my last race of the year, but then this week I decided to go race the Day in the Dirt. It's a race I've always wanted to do and Ryan Sipes and I are going to team up for the team race! Should be a blast!
I attached some photos from Brad Bentley and Megan Blackburn. Thanks!
